Man United hopes of signing top 28-year-old hinge on their ex-player – reporter
Manchester United could sign Ivan Perisic if ex-midfielder Angel di Maria moves to Inter Milan this summer, according to Giorgio Micheletti
Manchester United could still sign Ivan Perisic this summer if Inter Milan are able to recruit Angel di Maria, according to Italian reporter Giorgio Micheletti.
The Red Devils’ hopes of signing the Croatia international in the current transfer window were thought to be dwindling after Luciano Spalletti reiterated his desire to keep the winger.
Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old attacking midfielder throughout the summer but have struggled to reach an agreement with Inter Milan about Perisic’s price tag.
However, the Serie A giants are looking to sign attacking reinforcements before the start of the 2017-18 season, with former Manchester United winger Di Maria top of their list.
Italian football expert Micheletti has confirmed that Inter Milan want the Argentina international and suggested his arrival could trigger Perisic’s long-awaited move to Old Trafford.
“For a while he has promised to Inter. [Di Maria] would be an interesting purchase and would increase the quality of the Nerazzurri,” Micheletti told Tutto Mercato Web radio.
“Although his arrival could free up Perisic to head to Manchester United.”
Di Maria moved to Manchester United in a £59.7m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2014 but the South American playmaker struggled to adapt to life at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils sold the Argentina international to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £44m after less than 12 months at Manchester United.
