Gary Neville sends message to Jose Mourinho about Man United signings
Manchester United legend Gary Neville is impressed with Jose Mourinho's summer signings
Manchester United are equipped to challenge for the Premier League title, Gary Neville has claimed.
The Red Devils eased to a commanding 4-0 victory over West Ham United in their opening Premier League game of the 2017-18 season at Old Trafford.
Two of Jose Mourinho’s three summer signings played a big role in Manchester United’s thumping victory to hoist themselves to the top of the Premier League table.
Romelu Lukaku was signed in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton last month after Manchester United saw off competition from title holders Chelsea.
The Belgium striker scored twice in their 4-0 win to open his Premier League account in a Manchester United shirt in style.
Manchester United managed to pull off a transfer coup with the £40m addition of Nemanja Matic from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this month.
The Serbia international was named the man of the match after his influential performance in the middle of the park.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes the Red Devils are shaping up to win the Premier League title thanks to Mourinho’s summer signings.
“I have never seen this league won without power and pace and a really strong spine, and it looks like United have got that,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“They look like they are going to mount a challenge. It’s day one, but they look like they have the attributes to mount a challenge for the title because they seem like they have everything.
“There is no excuse for Man United not to challenge for the league. That’s not putting pressure on the players or Jose Mourinho, but they have to challenge with the money that has been spent and the players that have been brought in.
“Last season was not good enough in terms of the Premier League, nowhere near good enough. It was a massive under-performance from those players, so they have to get back up there this year.”
