Jose Mourinho told Man United need to make two more summer signings
Manchester United still need a centre-half and a left-back before the close of the summer transfer window, according to Andy Townsend
Manchester United still need to sign a centre-half and a left-back if Jose Mourinho wants to win the league title, according to Andy Townsend.
The Red Devils laid down a marker in their opening game after Manchester United were impressive 4-0 winners against West Ham United at Old Trafford.
Summer signing Romelu Lukaku scored either side of half-time before late goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba wrapped up three points.
Manchester United are sitting at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Paul Clement’s Swansea City side on Saturday.
Mourinho made Sweden defender Victor Lindelof his first summer signing after the 23-year-old completed a £30.7m move from Portuguese champions Benfica.
However, Lindelof was left out of Manchester United’s squad for their Premier League opener following a disappointing pre-season.
Manchester United, who also beat Swansea 4-0 on Saturday, also signed Nemanja Matic in a £40m deal from Chelsea to bolster their midfield options for the 2017-18 campaign.
Former Chelsea defender Townsend believes Manchester United still need two more signings to win the Premier League title this season.
“If Manchester United want to win the league, they could still be stronger at the back,” Townsend told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I know they spent a lot of money on Lindelof but something else. they need a left-back.”
The Red Devils have toiled in the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as their manager in 2013 following his 13th and final top-flight crown.
