Liverpool and Manchester United have joined Chelsea and Manchester City in the race to sign promising teenage defender Melayro Bogarde, according to reports in England.

The Guardian is reporting that the Premier League quartet have been “intensively” scouting the 15-year-old, who is the nephew of former Chelsea defender Winston Bogarde.

The same article states that the teenager is currently at Dutch champions Feyenoord but is available on a free transfer before he turns 16 next May.

According the story in the English newspaper, Manchester United have sent their Dutch scout to look at the Netherlands Under-16 international.

His uncle Winston won the Uefa Super Cup and the Champions League with Ajax before the centre-half enjoyed spells at La Liga giants Barcelona and Serie A side AC Milan.

Indeed, the retired defender won two La Liga crowns before Bogarde completed a move to Chelsea to link up with his compatriot Mario Melchiot at Stamford Bridge.

The former Netherlands international spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge before announcing his retirement in 2005.
