Nemanja Matic has admitted that he couldn’t resist the chance to work with Jose Mourinho again after the midfielder completed his summer move to Manchester United.

The Serbia international has signed a long-term deal with the Red Devils after Manchester United reached an agreement with Premier League champions Chelsea to sign the defensive midfielder.

Matic will be tasked with helping to reinforce Mourinho’s midfield alongside Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba in all competitions next season.

The 28-year-old was brought back to the Premier League in 2014 when Mourinho signed the Benfica midfielder in a £21m deal for Chelsea.

Matic was part of Mourinho’s Chelsea team that won the Premier League title and the EFL Cup crown in the 2014-15 season before Mourinho was sacked in December 2015.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website about his decision to move to Old Trafford from the Premier League champions, Matic shed light on the reasons behind his summer switch.

“I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” Matic said.

Manchester United’s third summer signing added: “This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club.”

Matic won two Premier League titles and the EFL Cup during his second spell at Chelsea after he was part of Guus Hiddink’s Blues team that won the FA Cup in 2009.
