Manchester United still need to sign a quality midfielder and another defender before the close of the summer transfer window, Eamonn Dunphy has claimed.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but still managed to get their hands on the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

Manchester United have signed three players in the summer transfer window so far as Mourinho looked to improve his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

Victor Lindelof arrived in a 30.7m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica, before Manchester United beat Chelsea to the 75m addition of Romelu Lukaku.

Jose Mourinho was reunited with his former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic after the Red Devils agreed a 40m deal with the defending Premier League champions.

However, former Manchester United midfielder Dunphy believes Mourinho still needs another two signings to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

“United need two more really good players,” Dunphy told 2FM.

“They don’t look right at the back and they need a real quality midfield player still.”

Manchester United were 4-0 winners against West Ham in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Lukaku scored either side of half-time before efforts from French duo Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.
