Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to begin their Premier League campaign with a home win against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils warmed up for their opening top-flight clash with a 2-1 loss to Champions League holders Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup clash on Tuesday night.
Manchester United have signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window so far.
The 20-time English champions finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season despite spending over £150m on new signings last year.
Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in their first season under Mourinho last season.
Former Liverpool striker Owen is backing Manchester United to secure three points against West Ham in their opening Premier League fixture.
“Jose Mourinho, almost incredibly, has never lost a home match on a Sunday in any competition during his long managerial career and I would be surprised if the Hammers caused a shock this weekend,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The bad news for the Hammers is that Romelu Lukaku scored against the European Champions midweek.
“The former Everton striker scored in seven straight Premier League games against West Ham at one time for the Blues and, with that goal in Skopje under his belt, the Belgium international is unlikely to be lacking confidence on his competitive home debut.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson secured his 13th and final title of his decorated Old Trafford career.
The Red Devils will return to the Champions League this season after Mourinho led to Manchester United to Europa League glory.
Mourinho has won the Premier League title three times during his managerial career so far.
