Tony Pulis has insisted that he knows nothing about possible interest in Jonny Evans from Arsenal – but has revealed that the Gunners tried to sign the West Brom defender last summer.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign the former Manchester United defender in recent days as Arsene Wenger ponders further bolstering his squad ahead of the close of the transfer window.
The Gunners have already signed two players this summer after having tied up early deals for both Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac.
It remains to be seen whether the north London side will bring in any new stars before the close of the transfer window next Thursday.
However, West Brom boss Pulis has said that Arsenal have not yet shown a concrete interest in signing Evans this summer.
Asked if Arsenal have made a bid to sign Evans this summer, Pulis told a news conference on Friday morning: “That’s the first I’ve heard of it.
“Arsenal were interested last summer and made an offer for Jonny but I don’t think the football club has received anything from Arsenal yet [this summer].”
