Martin Keown predicts where Man City, Man United will finish this season
The Arsenal legend is still backing Manchester City to pip Manchester United to the Premier League title
Martin Keown insists Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s signing and Manchester United’s start to the season hasn’t persuaded him to review his prediction that Manchester City will win the title.
The 35-year-old signed a new 12-month contract with the Red Devils on Thursday afternoon to bolster Manchester United’s options in attack for the 2017-18 Premier League season.
Ibrahimovic will be competing with Manchester United’s £75m signing Romelu Lukaku for a place up front in Jose Mourinho’s team in the current campaign.
The Belgium international has already scored three times in two Premier League games thanks to 4-0 victories over West Ham United and Swansea City to hoist themselves to the top of the table.
Manchester City are already two points adrift of Manchester United in the title race following a 1-1 draw with Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
Former Arsenal defender Keown, though, is still backing Pep Guardiola’s Citizens side to win the Premier League title ahead of Manchester United.
“I said City would win the Premier League before the start of the season and I am not veering from that prediction,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“But what Ibrahimovic’s return would do is give United another psychological boost… and it would keep Lukaku on his toes.”
Manchester City finished in third place in the Premier League table last season.
Mourinho’s men, on the other hand, ended up sixth spot but Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League titles.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
