Michael Owen was critical of Arsenal after Liverpool were emphatic 4-0 winners at Anfield.

The Reds welcomed their title rivals to Merseyside after booking their place in the Champions League group stage last week thanks to a 6-3 aggregate win against Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.

Liverpool made the breakthrough in the 17th minute thanks to Roberto Firmino’s close-range header to capitalise on the home side’s dominant start to the Premier League clash.

The Reds were 2-0 up before half-time when Sadio Mane evaded Rob Holding before curling a finish past Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech to score in his third successive Premier League game.

Summer signing Mohamed Salah forced an error from Hector Bellerin inside Liverpool’s half before running the length of the pitch to hand the hosts an impressive 3-0 advantage.

And Daniel Sturridge came off the bench to polish off Liverpool’s 4-0 win following Salah’s superb cross to tee up the England international for his first goal of the season.

Ex Liverpool striker Owen slammed Arsenal’s hapless performance at Anfield as the Reds moved back into the top four.

Owen wrote on Twitter: “Well that first half was an absolute mauling. Liverpool looking electric. Not got enough characters to say what I think about Arsenal.”

Liverpool have recorded home victories against Crystal Palace and Arsenal to bounce back from a 3-3 draw with Watford on the opening day of the season.
