Ryan Giggs tells Chelsea how many new signings Antonio Conte needs
The Manchester United legend believes Chelsea still need to sign two more players in the summer transfer window
Ryan Giggs believes Chelsea manager Antonio Conte needs at least two more signings before the close of the summer transfer window.
The defending Premier League champions got their season back on track thanks to a 2-1 win against title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday evening.
Marcos Alonso scored either side of half-time to help Chelsea secure three points after Michy Batshuayi’s own goal to level before the left-back’s late winner.
The Blues suffered a 3-2 loss to Burnley in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2017-18 season to make a disastrous start to their title defence.
Chelsea have signed Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata in the summer transfer window so far.
However, Blues boss Conte has also seen big-name players such as Nemanja Matic and John Terry, while promising youngsters Nathan Ake and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have also left the club.
Former Manchester United winger Giggs believes Chelsea need to make a couple of additions despite showing plenty of character to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
“Chelsea showed great character on Sunday,” Giggs told Sky Sports.
“I think Antonio Conte would like a couple more players to give the team a boost but they’ve silenced a lot of critics with that performance.”
Giggs added: “To go away from home, even if it was at Wembley, with players making their first Premier League starts, without Eden Hazard and be up against it for 90 minutes, it was a huge result for them.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season to win the top-flight title under new manager Conte.
The Blues lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May.
