Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be set to sign a new contract with Manchester United this week, according to reporter Aidan Magee.

The Swedish forward is a free agent after having been released by the Red Devils following the end of his contract at the beginning of the summer.

The 35-year-old missed the end of last season due to a serious knee injury but has been undergoing his rehabilitation at the Premier League club’s Carrington training complex.

And now it seems as if the Red Devils could be ready to make a move to try and bring the striker back into their squad for this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Monday morning, Magee said: “Is an Old Trafford hero about to return?

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ready to sign a contract as early as this week to return to Manchester United, just a few months after he was released following the knee injury he sustained in April.”

Manchester United would likely be keen to bring Ibrahimovic back to the club after he scored 17 Premier League goals for the Red Devils last season.

The Europa League holders have made a blistering start to the new season under Jose Mourinho, after having notched up back to back 4-0 wins over West Ham United and Swansea City.

Manchester United are now preparing to welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on Saturday evening as they look to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table.
