There may not be equal pay just yet but there are plenty of female sportswomen who are earning massive amounts of money every year.

In some cases, it’s the men who might be asking for equal pay as women can earn millions off the playing field thanks to sponsorship and modelling deals. Here’s a look at the richest women in sports and it seems taking up golf, motor racing or tennis might be a very profitable idea.

Serena Williams – The Queen of the tennis court is also the top dog when it comes to earnings with a net worth calculated by Forbes of $160m. With 22 Grand Slam tournament wins and another 14 doubles titles, Williams has reigned supreme for over a decade and a half despite playing a reduced schedule compared to some. Last year saw her earn $28.9m but $20m of that came via endorsements. Serena is off the court as she’s expecting her first baby but even that has seen her earn lots of cash from photoshoots etc. Williams has equity deals in companies such as the Home Shopping Network and the Miami Dolphins team.

Maria Sharapova – This top Russian tennis player isn’t too far behind Serena with a net worth of $135.9m. The last year or so hasn’t been great with that drugs suspension and that saw her lose some sponsorship deals. That’s the key for Maria, who earned $20m in endorsements last year compared to her on-court earnings of $1.9m and they will be significantly less this year due to injury. It proves to be attractive as well as talented in sport, especially if you’re a woman.

Alexis Dejoria – It’s not just female tennis players who are worth a fortune. Drag racer Alexis Dejoria has a net worth of $100m, not that she needs it, as her father is the billionaire entrepreneur John Paul Dejoria. Alexis earns her cash racing a Funny Car, not one a clown would drive but a race car that sees her reaching top speeds of 330mph. It doesn’t take her long either as she’s the first female driver to go under four seconds in a Funny Car so she’s laughing all the way to the bank.

Venus Williams – It must be strange being worth $75m yet still have a younger sister who’s worth double that. Venus hasn’t been as consistent in recent years as she was in the previous decade but did still add another million pounds to her fortune by reaching the Wimbledon final this year. She’s approaching the $40m mark in prize money and has plenty of sponsorship too.

Danica Patrick – Another racing driver this time takin part in NASCAR and before that had a top five finish in the 2005 Indy 500 race. She’s worth $60m and enjoys plenty of sponsorship deals most notably with Go Daddy.

Kim Yuna – This South Korean figure skater has a net worth of $21m and she won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics and silver four years later. She has major endorsement deals with companies including Nike, Samsung and Hyundai.

Caroline Wozniacki – This Danish tennis player has a net worth of $20m and is former world number one and is still to win a Grand Slam tournament. She has also worked hard in a separate modelling career away from the court, as seen in the recent Sports Illustrated photoshoot.

So, there’s a magnificent seven top earners who will most likely continue to make big money even after their careers end thanks to sports broadcasting deals etc. It’d be great to find a wealthy sports star to go out with but I’ve already been lucky and found my own little star after visiting this dating site where there are lots of fantastic women just waiting to be met.
