The Spurs legend hails Marcos Alonso's opener in Chelsea's clash against Tottenham at Wembley
Gary Lineker was quick to heap praise on Marco Alonso after the Chelsea defender scored a stunning free-kick in a 2-1 win against Tottenham on Sunday.
Chelsea made the trip to Wembley to face their bitter London rivals in their new temporary home in search of a first Premier League win of the 2017-18 season.
The Blues suffered a surprise 3-2 loss to Burnley at Stamford Bridge last weekend after club captain Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas were both sent off.
The Spanish full-back became the first player to score a Premier League goal at Wembley after Alonso curled a finish past Tottenham shot stopper Hugo Lloris in the 24th minute.
Former Spurs legend Lineker applauded Alonso’s stunning opener on Twitter before the former Fiorentina defender netted an 88th-minute winner following Michy Batshuayi’s own goal.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “That’s one hell of a free kick by Alonso.”
Alonso proved to be Chelsea’s match-winner with a close-range finish past Hugo Lloris after Michy Batshuayi’s own goal.
Alonso scored six goals in 31 appearances in the Premier League last season after completing a £17m move to the west London side from Serie A giants Fiorentina.
The Spanish defender was a key part of Antonio Conte’s side as Chelsea won the Premier League title in their first season under the Italian.
