Ian Wright sends message to Tottenham about reported Man United target
Ian Wright urges Tottenham Hotspur to consider re-signing Gareth Bale ahead of interest from Manchester United
Ian Wright has urged Tottenham Hotspur to consider re-signing Gareth Bale, despite Manchester United being favourites to land the Real Madrid star.
The Wales international’s future at The Bernabeu has been the source of debate in recent weeks amid talk of Real Madrid signing AS Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe.
Bale endured a frustrating 2016-17 campaign after the Wales international spent a large part of the campaign sidelined with injury.
The 28-year-old was also involved in a battle for a first-team spot with Spain international Isco, with the attacking midfielder starting ahead of Bale for the Champions League final in Cardiff.
The former Spurs winger won his first La Liga crown last term and lifted the Champions League for the third time since his then world-record move to the Spanish capital in the 2013 summer transfer window.
Manchester United are rumoured to be primed to bring Bale back to the Premier League if Real Madrid decide to sell the forward and the Welshman is open to a move.
However, former Arsenal striker Wright believes Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy should consider putting together a package to re-sign Bale ahead of their title rivals.
“If I’m Daniel Levy, I’m doing everything I can to see if I can bring Gareth Bale back to Spurs,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Bale scored 21 times in 33 games in his final Premier League season to win the PFA player of the year award in 2013.
