Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal are planning to open contract talks with both Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey in the coming weeks and months.

The Gunners have faced criticism for their poor handling of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s situations in recent months, with both of the attacking duo’s contracts set to expire at the end of next season.

Welbeck and Ramsey’s current deals are due to expire in the summer of 2019 and it appears clear that Wenger is keen to avoid a repeat of the situation which has arisen with Ozil and Sanchez.

Asked about Ramsey and Welbeck’s contracts, Wenger told a news conference on Thursday: “Yes, that is something we want to address. Both of them are in a good moment for us.”

Ramsey was named as the man of the match as he helped Arsenal secure a goalless draw against Chelsea in their Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

The north London side are currently preparing for their Premier League home clash against West Brom on Monday night at The Emirates as they look to get back to winning ways in the top flight.

Wenger’s men finished in a disappointing fifth place in the Premier League table last season as they missed out on Champions League qualification – but they did win the FA Cup.
