Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans: Alexis Sanchez is not fat
Arsene Wenger insists that Alexis Sanchez is in good shape and completely focused on Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has insisted that Alexis Sanchez has returned from international duty with Chile in good shape and dismissed claims that he is overweight.
Sanchez came off the bench to play the final 15 minutes in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at The Emirates on Saturday as they got back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Former Chile Under-20 coach Jose Sulantay’s claimed that Sanchez is “fatter than normal” during the recent international break.
However, Wenger has insisted that the 28-year-old attacker is in good shape and that he is completely focused on Arsenal after the heavy speculation about his future.
Wenger told his post-match news conference after Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth: “I spoke to him. He is focused, he told us he is focused on the Premier League and Europa League.
“On top of that he had a bad result with Chile against Bolivia, but he came back full of desire and ready to play.
“He was not completely physically ready to play three games in a week – and for Chile he was not completely ready.
“He is not fat. His fat percentage is under 10. You know how it is, when you do not win, people will find problems.”
Sanchez was heavily linked with a transfer away from Arsenal over the summer but a move failed to materialise for the forward.
It was thought that the former Barcelona attacker was close to securing a transfer to Manchester City but he ended up staying at The Emirates, despite him now having less than 11 months left on his contract with Arsenal.
The Gunners take on FC Cologne in their Europa League group stage opener on Thursday night.
