Charlie Adam claims Arsenal made the best signing on transfer deadline day
Charlie Adam believes that Arsenal wrapped up the best signing of deadline day by keeping Alexis Sanchez at the club
Charlie Adam has claimed that Arsenal made the best signing of any Premier League club on transfer deadline day – by keeping Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile international’s future was a relentless source of speculation throughout the summer after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract at The Emirates.
Sanchez was linked with a possible late move to Premier League rivals Manchester City but a deadline day transfer for the 28-year-old failed to materialise.
And Stoke City midfielder Adam believes that Arsenal wrapped up one of the best pieces of business of the summer transfer window by keeping Sanchez at the club beyond deadline day.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Adam said: “Sanchez staying at Arsenal is the deal of the day. At the moment they are lacking quality and it’s a big signing.”
Arsenal have made a poor start to the Premier League season and suffered a humiliating 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
The Gunners also lost to Stoke City last month to leave them with three points from their opening three games and in 16th place in the Premier League table.
The north London side will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Bournemouth at The Emirates in their next Premier League game after the international break on Saturday 9 September.
