Arsenal and Chelsea could be set for a transfer battle to secure the signature of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City in the January transfer window, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that both Arsenal and Chelsea could be set to make a move for the 22-year-old winger, who could be put up for sale by the Citizens.

The same report states that a handful of Premier League clubs believes that Sterling could be made available for a transfer in the coming months once Pep Guardiola’s new team has taken shape.

The story says that Arsenal and Chelsea are likely to be the only “realistic” candidates for the England international’s signature.

The Sport Review exclusively revealed last week that Sterling’s camp had made it clear that the former Liverpool star was interested in a move to Arsenal.

However, a move did not materialise, amid reports that he was set to be offered to Arsenal as part of the deal for Alexis Sanchez to head to Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether Sterling has a long-term future at Manchester City beyond the January transfer window.
