Frank Lampard has told Arsene Wenger to start Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal’s Europa League clash against Cologne on Thursday night to help him find his form ahead of Sunday’s trip to Chelsea.

The Chile international came off the bench late on during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Sanchez’s situation has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after he was heavily linked with a transfer away from The Emirates in the summer window.

However, a move failed to materialise and Sanchez will remain as an Arsenal player until January at least.

He is currently working his way back to full fitness, but Lampard has suggested that he should feature against Cologne on Thursday night in a bid to get ready for the crunch clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

Lampard told the Evening Standard: “With a League game at Chelsea on Sunday, I’m sure Wenger will make some changes [for Cologne]. Yet there are enough options for him to rotate.

“The biggest choice might be over Alexis Sanchez. Wenger says he isn’t match fit, however playing on Thursday might make him ready for the trip to Stamford Bridge.”

Arsenal have lost two and won two of their opening four Premier League games this season.

The north London side were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool before the international break and also lost 1-0 to Stoke City but bounced back by beating Bournemouth last weekend.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are three points ahead of the Gunners.
