Ian Wright talks up promising Arsenal partnership: Something’s happening here
The Arsenal legend believes Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka are starting to forge a mutual understanding in Arsene Wenger's team
Ian Wright believes Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka are forging a promising Arsenal partnership in midfield.
The Gunners managed to bounce back from a tough start to the 2017-18 season with a goalless draw at defending Premier League champions Chelsea last weekend.
Ramsey and Xhaka were two of the north London side’s best players at Stamford Bridge as Arsene Wenger stuck with his new-look Arsenal midfield.
The Wales international was named man of the match for his performance in the heart of the pitch as Chelsea’s three-game winning run came to an end.
Ramsey has scored one goal and has made one assist in the Premier League this season, while Xhaka has also created two goals for his team-mates.
Former Arsenal striker Wright is encouraged by the potential in the midfield partnership between Ramsey and Xhaka ahead of Arsenal’s home clash against West Brom at The Emirates at Monday night.
“Ramsey and Xhaka are getting it a little,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“We have to wait a few more games. But we can see something can happen between these two players.
“Ramsey can get forward and Xhaka has to stay back. They did that better on Sunday.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira helped the Gunners to win the top-flight crown.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
