Arsene Wenger has said that he is hoping that Alexis Sanchez is now back to full fitness after he helped Arsenal reach the fourth round of the League Cup with a 1-0 win over Doncaster on Wednesday night.

Theo Walcott scored the only goal of the game in the first half at The Emirates as Wenger’s side edged through to the next round to set up a home clash against Norwich City next month.

Sanchez played the full 90 minutes for Wenger’s side as he continues to work on his fitness levels after having missed the first few games of the season with an abdominal problem.

However, Wenger has revealed that he now believes that Sanchez is back to full fitness as the north London side gear up for their Premier League home game against West Brom at The Emirates on Monday night.

Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night, Wenger said of Sanchez: “For me, he needs competition and that’s why I left him on the pitch as well.”

Asked if Sanchez will be ready for Monday night, Wenger replied: “Yes, he should be ready now.”

Arsenal are looking to get their Premier League campaign back on track against the Baggies after their stuttering start to the new campaign.

The Gunners have only won two of their opening five games and were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their most recent outing.

The north London side are aiming to win the title for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
