Arsene Wenger sent title warning ahead of Chelsea v Arsenal
Kevin Kilbane wants to see Arsenal produce a strong performance and beat defending champions Chelsea this weekend
Arsenal need to put in a champions performance at Chelsea before Arsene Wenger’s men can be discussed as potential title winners, Kevin Kilbane says.
The Gunners have managed to recover from a shaky start to the 2017-18 season with back-to-back victories in the Premier League and the Europa League.
Arsenal lost 1-0 to Stoke City before a humiliating 4-0 defeat at Liverpool ahead of the international break to leave the Gunners in crisis.
However, Wenger’s side were 3-0 winners against Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium last weekend to make a swift return to winning ways.
The north London side came from behind to ease to a 3-1 win against Bundesliga side Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The north London side’s prospects have been talked up after scoring six goals in successive games at the Emirates Stadium.
But former Everton defender Kilbane warned that Arsenal need to prove that they really have turned a corner with a victory at defending champions Chelsea this weekend.
“People are saying Arsenal are back on track now after that win at Bournemouth,” Kilbane told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“I don’t see that at all with them. They have to put in a good performance at Chelsea before they can say their back and they can be seriously considered as title candidates.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira inspired Wenger’s side to title glory.
The Gunners finished in second place behind Leicester City in the 2015-16 Premier League title race.
