Graeme Souness has urged Arsene Wenger to adopt a pragmatic approach when Arsenal travel to their title rivals.

The Gunners boss made the controversial decision to leave out Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Arsenal produced a dogged performance to secure a point in a goalless draw with the Premier League champions in the London derby.

The north London side lost 4-0 to title rivals Liverpool in the Premier League last month as Jurgen Klopp’s side exposed Arsenal’s obvious frailties with Ozil and Sanchez in the team.

The Gunners have won two of their opening five Premier League games so far this season to leave Wenger’s side in twelfth place in the table.

Former Liverpool captain Souness believes Wenger must go against his instincts and be more pragmatic against Arsenal’s biggest rivals.

“Arsenal have an attitude where they think they van take anyone on in a game of football,” Souness told Sky Sports.

“They’re not good enough to do that. There are some games where they have to be more pragmatic.”

The Gunners will host West Brom in their next Premier League at The Emirates on Monday.

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.

The Gunners signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Schalke 04 defender Sead Kolasinac in the summer.
