Ian Wright makes plea to Arsenal Wenger about Arsenal tactics
The Arsenal legend wants Arsene Wenger to stick with his tactics which worked so successfully at Chelsea
Ian Wright has urged Arsene Wenger to adopt the same Arsenal tactics from their goalless draw at Stamford Bridge when the Gunners come up against their title rivals again this season.
The north London side made the trip to their derby rivals on the back of a mixed start to the 2017-18 Premier League season.
Arsenal suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in their final Premier League game in August to prompt an avalanche of criticism.
Wenger and his players were slammed for showing a lack of fight on Merseyside with many discounting their ability to challenge for the title this season.
But the Arsenal boss highlighted his willingness to adopt a pragmatic approach with a defensive approach to their clash against the defending champions.
In the absence of big name players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal produced a dogged performance to secure a point at Stamford Bridge.
Former Arsenal striker Wright wants Wenger to continue to adopt the same tactics when the Gunners are pitted against other title rivals in the future.
“It is a real pleasure to be able to talk about Arsene Wenger and the players getting it absolutely right,” Wright told The Sun.
“I would implore Arsene to adopt the same shape and tactics for all our away matches against the ‘Big Six’.
“Arsenal were far more disciplined in defence.”
Arsenal signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners recruited Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Schalke 04.
