Ian Wright believes there are signs of a promising midfield partnership blossoming between Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka.

The Gunners endured a tough start to the season following losses on the road at Leicester City and Liverpool after a 4-3 win against Leicester City on the opening day of the 2017-18 season.

Arsenal bounced back with a 3-0 win against Bournemouth at The Emirates before making the trip to defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Ramsey and Xhaka impressed in Arsenal’s goalless draw with Chelsea as the Wales international was named the man of the match at Stamford Bridge.

The Switzerland international endured a tough first season at the north London club following his £33m switch from Borussia Monchengladbach in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal striker Wright is excited about the potential partnership between Ramsey and Xhaka in Arsene Wenger’s midfield.

“Ramsey and Xhaka are getting it a little,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“We have to wait a few more games. But we can see something can happen between these two players.

“Ramsey can get forward and Xhaka has to stay back. They did that better on Sunday.”

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on the Champions League for the first time under Wenger.

The Gunners signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Schalke 04 defender Sead Kolasinac in the summer transfer window.

The north London side will host West Brom in their next Premier League at the Emirates Stadium next Monday.
