Laurent Koscielny sends message to Arsenal fans about Alexis Sanchez’s attitude
The Arsenal defender believes Alexis Sanchez is committed to the Gunners despite his summer transfer saga
Laurent Koscielny is confident that Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez has put his summer transfer saga behind him.
The Chile international was linked with a potential move to Premier League title favourites Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
Sanchez’s proposed move to the Etihad Stadium fell through on deadline day after the Gunners failed to reach a deal with Monaco forward Thomas Lemar.
The 28-year-old striker missed Arsenal’s opening two Premier League games before the South American returned to the starting line-up for a 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Sanchez has scored one goal in five appearances in the current campaign after he netted an impressive strike in a 3-1 victory over Cologne in the Europa League earlier this month.
The former Udinese forward has less than 12 months remaining on his Arsenal deal and could leave the north London club on a free transfer next summer.
Arsenal vice-captain Koscielny lifted the lid on Sanchez’s attitude in the Gunners camp despite a frustrating summer transfer window for the South American forward.
“Alexis is an important player for us,” Koscielny told the Daily Express.
“I know it was a difficult situation with the transfer window but now it’s finished and I think he is focused on his job, on his performance and on his club.
“He’s an Arsenal player and he knows that he needs to play and he needs to score some goals and give assists to be better.
“He’s still working every day like he did before, so the most important thing is to keep his head cool and just play and enjoy.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League.
The Gunners won the FA Cup last term thanks to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
