Martin Keown has admitted that Arsenal are still a long way behind Manchester City and Manchester United despite Monday night’s 2-0 win against West Brom at The Emirates.

The Gunners returned to Premier League action after Premier League leaders Manchester City were resounding 5-0 winners against Crystal Palace at The Etihad on Saturday.

Manchester United maintained their unbeaten start to the 2017-18 Premier League season with a close-fought 1-0 win against Southampton at St Mary’s thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s winner.

Arsenal started Monday night’s clash a staggering nine points adrift of the two Manchester clubs after six games but managed to close the gap and hoist themselves up to seventh place.

Alexandre Lacazette reacted quickest when Alexis Sanchez’s free-kick hit the woodwork to break the deadlock in the 20th minute and continue his fine start to the season.

Wales international Aaron Ramsey won a second-half penalty to allow Lacazette to score his second of the night and wrap up three vital points for the hosts.

Former Arsenal defender Keown was impressed with the home side’s win but conceded the Gunners are still a long way off the performance level of Manchester City and Manchester United.

“Arsenal picked up three vital points but they are some way behind the top two in the Premier League at the moment,” Keown told BBC Sport.

Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004.
