Arsenal told to build on Chelsea performance without Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez

Ian Wright has urged Arsene Wenger to stick with the Arsenal team that drew 0-0 at Chelsea on Sunday and leave out Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners boss left Sanchez on the bench for the trip to Stamford Bridge as club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette started up front for Arsenal.

Ozil wasn’t named in the match day squad due to a muscle injury after what has been a tough start to the season for the Germany international.

Both Ozil and Sanchez received their fair share of criticism following Arsenal’s humiliating 4-0 loss to title rivals Liverpool at Anfield last month.

Perhaps with that result fresh in the mind, Wenger opted to go without his two big-name players as Arsenal produced a dogged performance in a goalless stalemate with the defending Premier League champions.

Former Arsenal striker Wright wants to see Wenger leave out Ozil and Sanchez, adding that the north London side should build on the foundation laid with this display at Stamford Bridge.

“On Sunday, the future [is] without them two,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Arsenal need to build on that team [at Stamford Bridge]. While they’re not committing to the club, absolutely [leave them on the bench]. To see how they started and played, I’d go with that.”

Arsenal signed Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window to surpass the fee that the Gunners paid for ex Real Madrid midfielder Ozil in 2013.
