Alan Smith reflects on Arsenal's 2-0 victory over West Brom as the Gunners moved up to seventh in the table
Alan Smith lavished praise on both Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Brom in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Gunners returned to winning ways in the top flight thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s double as Arsene Wenger’s men moved up to seventh place in the table.
The north London side produced a solid defensive display against Tony Pulis’ men as they returned to winning ways in the top flight.
And former Arsenal striker Smith was particularly impressed by the performances of both Monreal and Koscielny as the Gunners got back to winning ways against the Baggies.
Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, former striker Smith said: “It was a good night for Arsenal [against West Brom].
“They did everything they had to in the second half.
“There were some really good performances defensively. Nacho Monreal was excellent and Laurent Koscielny too.
“It looked tricky in the first half when they were conceding chances. Three points for the Gunners is what we expected and what they got.”
Arsenal’s win lifted them up to seventh place in the table and left them six points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.
The north Londoners return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Brighton at The Emirates.
Before that, they travel to Russia to take on BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign, when they were still playing their home games at Highbury.
