Martin Keown questions whether Mesut Ozil will hold down a regular spot in the Premier League for Arsenal this season
Martin Keown is not sure that Mesut Ozil is guaranteed a starting spot in the Arsenal side in the Premier League this season.
The Germany playmaker came in for huge amounts of criticism after Arsenal’s disappointing 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League earlier this month.
The 28-year-old has been struggling with a knee injury and he sat out Arsenal’s goalless draw against Chelsea earlier this month as the Gunners earned plenty of praise for their battling display against the Blues.
Ozil came on as a second-half substitute during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over West Brom at The Emirates on Monday night as they got back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Former Gunners defender Keown reckons that Ozil will start for Arsenal in Thursday night’s Europa League clash against BATE Borisov, but questioned whether he is worthy of a regular spot in the Premier League team.
Keown told BBC Radio 5 live on Monday night: “It will be interesting to see about Mesut Ozil now – I bet he starts on Thursday in the Europa League on Thursday but I’m not sure about the Premier League.”
Arsenal take on Brighton in their next Premier League game at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon as they look to climb the top flight table.
Arsene Wenger’s men are currently in seventh place and six points behind joint leaders Manchester United and Manchester City after six games of the new campaign.
