The Germany international’s Arsenal future remains unclear after the 28-year-old entered the final 12 months of his current contract ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Ozil has failed to agree a contract extension with Arsenal due to his excessive demands but the World Cup winners hasn’t attracted much interest from Europe’s top clubs unlike his team-mate Alexis Sanchez.
The former Real Madrid midfielder was heavily criticised for his abject performance in Arsenal’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool in their last Premier League game.
Ozil was quick to release a statement following the dismal loss at Anfield but the German midfielder’s social media post attracted plenty of criticism.
Former Arsenal striker Wright has now bluntly told Ozil to sign a new contract with the Gunners if the playmaker is so eager to prove his loyalty to the club.
“We see him releasing a statement or an apology on Instagram,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“The guy isn’t signing a new contract.
“If you want to show that you are ready to do it for the fans, then sign the contract.
“He is an easy target but it is his fault for coming out with ridiculous PR statement. It doesn’t work with me.”
Ozil moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2013 January transfer window.
The German midfielder has only won the FA Cup during his time at Arsenal and hasn’t come close to getting his hands on the Premier League crown.
