Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mesut Ozil will return to training ahead of Arsenal’s clash against West Brom on Monday night.

The Gunners were without Ozil for Arsenal’s goalless draw with Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend after the World Cup winner picked up a knee problem.

Ozil was also absent from Wenger’s squad for the north London side’s 1-0 win against Doncaster Rovers at the Emirates Stadium in the League Cup third round.

The Germany international provided an update on Instagram mid-week to reassure Arsenal fans that he is close to a return to first-team action following his return to the gym.

Arsenal will host West Brom in their next Premier League fixture on Monday night and Wenger confirmed that Ozil is set to return to first-team training ahead of the top-flight clash.

“He is in training and will come back with the team training today or tomorrow,” Wenger told his pre-match media conference on Thursday morning.

Ozil was heavily criticised for his subdued performance in Arsenal’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League at the end of August.

The German midfielder has entered the final 12 months of his current Arsenal deal to raise the possibility of Ozil leaving for nothing next summer.

The attacker moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2013 transfer window.
