Jamie Carragher sends encouraging message to Chelsea about Arsenal’s title bid

The Liverpool legend warns Arsenal can't afford to lose a third Premier League game if the Gunners want to win the Premier League title

Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea can end Arsenal’s title challenge after just five Premier League games at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Gunners have made an uncertain start to the Premier League campaign following a run of two victories and two defeats in their opening four fixtures.

Arsenal have lost both of their top-flight fixtures on the road so far this term, including a resounding 4-0 loss to title rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

Chelsea were 3-1 winners against Arsenal in their last Premier League meeting as Antonio Conte’s side lost a mere three games throughout their title-winning campaign.

Leicester City lost just three times during their dramatic 2015-16 seasons as the Foxes won an unprecedented Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri.

Should Chelsea manage to beat Arsenal in west London this weekend, Arsene Wenger’s side will have already racked up three Premier League defeats this season.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher claimed that Arsenal are facing a must-win game to keep their slim title hopes alive.

“They just didn’t perform in the FA Cup Final but they won’t think Arsenal have a huge hold over them,” Carragher told the Evening Standard.

“Chelsea will be desperate to put that result to bed in this next big game against them. Chelsea will know that in this derby they can really kill Arsenal’s title aspirations.

“If you lose three games early on in the season, it gives you very little chance of challenging for the title – and Arsenal have already been beaten twice this season.

“In the last few seasons, Chelsea and Leicester only lost three in winning the League in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

“And while Chelsea had five defeats last season, they actually clinched it with more points because they won 30 games.”

Arsenal have beaten Chelsea in their last two meetings in the Community Shield and the FA Cup at Wembley.

The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira inspired Wenger’s side to title glory.
