Thibaut Courtois sends message to Chelsea fans about David Luiz
Thibaut Courtois admits that losing David Luiz to suspension will be a blow for Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois has admitted that David Luiz’s suspension will come as a big blow for Chelsea.
The west London side will be without the Brazilian defender for three domestic games after he was shown a straight red card late on during the goalless draw with Arsenal last weekend.
Luiz was given his marching orders following a reckless tackle on Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac late on during the game.
The defender will now miss Chelsea’s next three games, starting with the home clash against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup third round on Wednesday night.
And goalkeeper Courtois admits that losing Luiz will be a big blow for Conte’s Chelsea side as they look to get their Premier League title challenge back on track in the coming weeks.
Courtois is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “We play Forest in midweek so it’s one less game in the Premier League, but the manager may have rotated David anyway.
“It’s a blow because David has been playing really well since he arrived last season.
“He’s a great player and a great leader but we have confidence in the other guys as well. He will be missed but we have good players on the bench.”
Luiz helped Chelsea to win the Premier League title last season in Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues will be hoping to challenge for the Champions League trophy this season after having missed out on a place in Europe altogether last term.
Chelsea kicked off their Champions League campaign with a thumping 6-0 win over Qarabag last week at Stamford Bridge.
