Jamie Carragher hailed Kevin De Bruyne as a “superstar” after the Manchester City midfielder’s goal in a 1-0 win against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

The Belgium international has made a fine start to the season after a return of three assists in their opening six Premier League games ahead of their trip to the midfielder’s former club Chelsea.

De Bruyne scored Manchester City’s opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

And the 26-year-old Belgian playmaker made his mark against his former employers in the second half to covert Manchester City’s dominant performance into a goal.

De Bruyne played a one-two with Gabriel Jesus on the edge of Chelsea’s area before he placed a precise finish past his international team-mate Thibaut Courtois.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher lavished praise on Belgian midfielder De Bruyne for his brilliant opener against the defending Premier League champions.

Carragher wrote on Twitter: “Wow! De Bryune is a superstar!! #CHEMCI”

Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season but are facing a battle to retain their top-flight crown given Manchester City’s brilliant start to the campaign.

Manchester City have scored 22 goals in their opening seven Premier League games this term.
