Robbie Savage heaped praise on Alvaro Morata after the Spaniard continued his fine start to the new season by scoring Chelsea’s equaliser in their thrilling 2-1 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Morata has been in fine form for the west London side since signing for the Blues from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has already netted six goals in six Premier League games and he was in top form on Wednesday night as Antonio Conte’s men took a point home from their trip to Spain.

And Morata opened his Champions League account for the Blues when he headed home Eden Hazard’s cross in the second half against Atletico.

Substitute Michy Batshuayi then netted a dramatic late winner for Conte’s men as the west London side claimed a thrilling victory.

And Savage was hugely impressed by both Morata’s finish and Hazard’s assist as Chelsea drew level.

Speaking during BT Sport’s coverage of the game, Savage said: “It was a magnificent cross-field ball from David Luiz.

“You can’t give a player like Eden Hazard time to get his head up. He whips in an unbelievable ball and Morata just uses the pace of the cross from Hazard to get a deft little touch with his head.

“It was a brilliant run and a brilliant header. A brilliant goal from Conte’s men.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday evening when they take on Manchester City at Stamford Bridge,

Conte’s men know that victory over the Citizens would lift them level on points with Manchester City heading into the international break.

Morata, who signed for the Blues from Real Madrid back in July, netted a hat-trick for Chelsea during their 4-0 win over Stoke last weekend.
