Mark Hughes makes honest admission about Alvaro Morata at Chelsea
Mark Hughes admits he has been very impressed by Alvaro Morata's start to life at Chelsea this season
Mark Hughes has described Alvaro Morata as a “very intelligent” striker after the Spaniard hit a hat-trick in Chelsea’s thumping 4-0 win over his Stoke City side on Saturday.
The 24-year-old was in fine form as he netted three times to help Chelsea to get back to winning ways in the Premier League and move up to third place in the table.
Morata looks to have swiftly adapted to the rigours of the Premier League following his big-money move from Real Madrid back in July.
And Stoke City boss Hughes admits that he was impressed by what he saw from the striker against his Potters side on Saturday afternoon.
Hughes is quoted as saying by Metro: “It is early days for him but he is affecting games in the way you would hope from a top-level striker, which he clearly is.
“The way Chelsea play, they allow you to come on to them, to an extent, then hit you on the break.
“He looks like a player who understands that role. He’s played in Italy so he is always waiting for those little moments to join in. He looks a very intelligent player.”
Morata has now scored six goals in his first six Premier League appearances for the west London side.
He will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a crunch clash against Atletico Madrid in Spain.
Chelsea kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
The Blues missed out altogether on a place in Europe last season after they finished in 10th place in the 2015-16 campaign following Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
