Glenn Hoddle: What Chelsea must do to keep Eden Hazard
Glenn Hoddle discusses Eden Hazard's future and Chelsea's Champions League hopes
Glenn Hoddle has warned Chelsea that they will need to challenge for the Champions League trophy to keep the likes of Eden Hazard at the club.
The Blues kicked off their Champions League group stage campaign with a thumping 6-0 victory over Qarabag at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night as they look to challenge for the trophy this season.
Chelsea missed out on a place in Europe altogether last season after they finished in 10th place in the 2015-16 campaign.
And former England manager Hoddle feels that the Blues will have to be challenging for the Champions League trophy in order to keep the likes of Hazard at the club.
He also feels that Chelsea will reach the knockout stage of the competition but has expressed his doubts about whether they will be able to win the trophy.
Speaking on BT Sport on Tuesday night, Hoddle said: “To keep the likes of Eden Hazard, you’ve got to be in the Champions League and going deep into the competition.
“Their squad is well capable of going deep into the competition.
“Whether they can win it, I’m not so sure. But I think they can have a good run at it.”
Hazard will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side are currently in third place in the Premier League table after having won three of their opening four top flight games this season.
