Kylian Mbappe: Chelsea are a great club
Kylian Mbappe admits that he was hugely impressed by Chelsea when he spent some time on trial with the Blues as a youngster
Kylian Mbappe has described Chelsea as a “great club” and admits that he has fond memories of his brief trial with the Blues when he was just 11 years old.
The 18-year-old has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents in recent years and he was linked with a host of Europe’s best clubs in the summer transfer window.
However, Mbappe ended up leaving Monaco to sign for French champions Paris Saint-Germain in a loan deal which will become permanent next summer.
Mbappe was touted as a target for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea during the summer transfer window before his move to PSG was confirmed last month.
Now, the teenage attacker has lifted the lid on his first impressions of Chelsea after spending some time on trial there as a youngster.
Mbappe is quoted as saying by Metro: “It was a wonderful experience. Chelsea was the first great club, the first big club, that I went to visit. So it was a real discovery for me.
“I was coming from my grassroots, amateur club. It was a whole new world.
“Of course I had an idea what a great football club was like but I was really impressed by the working culture and the mentality of wanting to be better day-in, day-out and visiting this infrastructure helped me, actually, with my development.
“I saw things differently because up until then I had just a French mentality and after that I could pick what was positive in other mentalities and build my own.
“I got to meet some of the first-team players – (Didier) Drogba, (Florent) Malouda – the French-speaking ones and took some pictures with them.”
Chelsea are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
