Michael Owen delivers verdict on Chelsea signing: He’s like an English centre-forward
The Liverpool legend heaps praise on Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata after the Spain international's impressive start to his Blues career

Michael Owen has likened Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata to a traditional English centre-forward.
The Premier League champions signed Morata in a club-record £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The Chelsea striker has wasted no time leaving his mark on the defending champions after scoring three times in four games in the Premier League.
Morata opened his account with a consolation goal in a 3-2 against Burnley before the Spain international netted a header in a 2-0 victory over Everton at Stamford Bridge.
And the 24-year-old continued his rich vein of form by scoring in successive top-flight games thanks to his opener in a 2-1 win against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last weekend.
Morata’s arrival was met with some skepticism after Chelsea missed out on the signing of Romelu Lukaku to replace Diego Costa’s void in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up.
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen has been impressed with how Morata has adapted to the Premier League.
“Morata’s almost like an English centre-forward,” Owen told BT Sport on Tuesday night. “He likes crosses and is brilliant in the air with his head.
“He likes nicking in there with crosses, even getting in at the front post and scoring little tap-ins.”
Morata won two Serie A titles with Juventus during his two-season stay at the Italian giants before returning to Real Madrid last summer.
The Spanish striker lifted the La Liga crown and the Champions League trophy with los Blancos last term.
