Pat Nevin delivers verdict on Chelsea signing: He looks special
The Chelsea legend is impressed with Alvaro Morata's start to life at Stamford Bridge following his summer move
Alvaro Morata looks like a pretty special striker for Chelsea, according to Pat Nevin.
The Spain international moved to the Premier League champions in a club-record £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Morata scored on his Premier League debut after the striker came off the bench to net what was ultimately a consolation goal in a 3-2 loss to Burnley.
The 24-year-old found the net with a superb header in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge last month to continue his impressive start.
Morata scored his first Premier League goal on the road last weekend with another header in a 2-1 victory over 2016 champions Leicester City.
The former Juventus forward has been tasked with replacing the goal void left by Diego Costa in the Chelsea team this season.
Ex-Blues winger Nevin has been impressed with Morata’s start to life as a Chelsea player in the Premier League.
“Morata is out of a book for how a centre-forward should play,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“Not just his goals but his movement and interacting with players around him.
“He looked pretty special once again.
“He keeps getting in good goal-scoring positions.”
Morata couldn’t get on the score sheet in Chelsea’s goalless draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Chelsea were 6-0 winners against Qarabag in their Champions League group-stage opener on Tuesday night.
The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window including Morata.
