Steven Gerrard: What I really think about Alvaro Morata at Chelsea
Steven Gerrard gives his thoughts on new Chelsea signing Alvaro Morata following his move from Real Madrid
Steven Gerrard believes that Alvaro Morata is a better long-term option up front for Chelsea than Diego Costa.
The 24-year-old striker has made a brilliant start to life at Stamford Bridge after joining the west London club from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Morata has been in fine form for the west London side and he has scored six goals in his first six Premier League games for Antonio Conte’s men to help the Blues up to third place in the table.
The striker hit a fine hat-trick on Saturday to help Chelsea secure a thumping 4-0 win over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.
Costa’s transfer from Chelsea back to Atletico Madrid was finally confirmed last week after months of speculation about his future.
And Liverpool legend Gerrard believes that Morata will be a better fit for the west London side in the long term.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show on Saturday, Gerrard said: “Morata is a better long-term option for Chelsea [than Diego Costa].
“I think he gives them a bit more pace and runs behind a little bit more.”
Morata will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a crunch clash against Atletico Madrid in Spain.
The west London side kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
