Chris Sutton believes Chelsea shouldn’t be discounted from the Premier League title race this season despite the impressive form of the Manchester clubs.

Manchester City were 5-0 winners against Crystal Palace at The Etihad in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon to take their tally to 21 goals in their opening six games of the 2017-18 campaign.

Manchester United have won five of their six Premier League fixtures this season following a 1-0 victory at Southampton at the weekend and only dropped pointed in a 2-2 draw at Stoke City earlier this month.

Both Manchester clubs are sitting three points clear of their title rivals Chelsea after the defending champions lost 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge on the opening day of the season.

The Blues have only conceded two goals in their last five games and laid down a marker of their own following an impressive 4-0 victory over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

Former Chelsea striker Sutton believes the defending champions are still in the title race equation.

“I wouldn’t rule Chelsea out,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Chelsea have a steeliness about them. Defensively they have an edge over Man City and Man United.”

Chelsea have won two of their last three Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad depth.
