Frank Lampard names two players key to Chelsea’s season
The Chelsea legend believes Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata will hold the key to the Blues' title hopes this season
Frank Lampard believes Chelsea’s bid to win silverware this season hinges on Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term after the west London side finished seven points clear of their closest title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The defending Premier League champions signed Morata in a club-record £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has already hit the ground running with three goals in four Premier League appearances to help Chelsea hoist themselves up to third place in the table.
Hazard made his return from a broken ankle as a second-half substitute in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last weekend.
The Belgian forward made another substitute appearance in the west London side’s 6-0 victory over Qarabag in their Champions League opener on Tuesday night.
Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard believes keeping Hazard and Morata fit will be vital if manager Antonio Conte wants to win more silverware this season.
“Morata is their main striker. He needs to stay injury free,” Lampard told BT Sport on Tuesday night. “Hazard came back on again. He is the magic in the Chelsea team.
“They are very well drilled. I do fancy their chances of going far because they’re so well drilled and can defend.”
Chelsea have also signed Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta.
The Blues have won three of their opening four Premier League games.
