Antonio Conte explains why he was so pleased by Eden Hazard's performance for Chelsea against Atletico Madrid
Antonio Conte has revealed his delight at how well Eden Hazard performed for Chelsea in their 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Belgian playmaker produced a sparkling display in Spain as Conte’s men came from a goal down to claim a famous win over Diego Simeone’s side.
Hazard was named as the man of the match as he set up Alvaro Morata for Chelsea’s equaliser in the second half against the La Liga side.
The 26-year-old has recently recovered from an ankle injury and Wednesday’s game marked only his second start of the season for the west London side.
And Conte admits that he was thrilled by Hazard’s performance, as well as the promising signs of a strong partnership with Morata in the Chelsea team.
Speaking to BT Sport after Wednesday’s game, Conte said: “We must be very happy because I think Eden’s performance was amazing.
“It was the first big game for him after the bad injury and I think his answer was fantastic, positive and he had a great link with Alvaro.”
Hazard and Morata will be hoping to link up well again when Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in their crunch Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues head into the game in third place in the table but know that victory over Pep Guardiola’s men would leave them level on points with the Citizens going into the international break.
