Willian sends message to Chelsea, Man United fans about Nemanja Matic
Willian admits that he was disappointed to see the likes of Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa leave Chelsea this summer
Willian has admitted that he was disappointed to see the likes of Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Matic was allowed to leave Stamford Bridge to sign for Premier League rivals Manchester United back in August despite the Serbian playing a key role in helping Chelsea win the title under Antonio Conte last season.
Costa, meanwhile, completed his transfer to Atletico Madrid last week after he was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge by Conte.
Matic has already made a strong start to life at Manchester United and he has been a regular fixture in the first team under Jose Mourinho.
And Willian has conceded that he was disappointed to see both players leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Asked about Matic and Costa’s departures, Willian told Sky Sports: “These players are great players, we miss these players, but Chelsea always try to bring players with quality.
“I think the players that arrive have the quality to play here and the squad and the team are still strong. And we have to push till the end of the season.
“It is difficult to talk about that because of course when you lose players like that, it is bad.
“But we have great players here and we have to be happy if you are here, or in Manchester or Madrid.
“You have to try and always play the best football on the pitch. It is the same, nothing changes.
“Of course the players change, but the way we play, nothing changes, we always train in the same way, we always have a plan to come to the game, nothing changes.
“We have to look forward. There are more games coming and we have to be ready.”
Chelsea are aiming to win the Premier League for the third time in four seasons this term.
The Blues successfully won the title last term after Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager last summer.
Chelsea return to Champions League action next Wednesday when they travel to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid, after their opening win over Qarabag on Matchday One.
