Antonio Conte reveals plan for Eden Hazard ahead of Chelsea v Qarabag
Eden Hazard will start on the bench for Chelsea during their Champions League clash with Qarabag on Tuesday night
Antonio Conte has confirmed that Eden Hazard will start on the bench for Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Qarabag on Tuesday night.
The Belgian playmaker has been struggling with an ankle injury after suffering the problem while on international duty at the start of the summer.
However, Hazard is gradually working his way back to full fitness and he featured as a late substitute during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Leicester in the Premier League at the weekend.
It had been thought that Hazard could start his first game of the season for Chelsea against Qarabag on Tuesday night.
But Conte has revealed that he plans to start the 26-year-old as a substitute for the Blues’ Champions League curtain raiser.
Conte told his pre-match news conference at Cobham on Monday afternoon: “He is in the group, in the squad and is working well to find the best physical condition.
“He needs a bit of time to continue to improve and we must not take a stupid risk with him. He will come on to the bench.”
Chelsea are currently preparing to return to the Champions League after missing out on a spot in Europe’s elite club competition last term.
The Blues are third in the Premier League table after having taken nine points from their opening three games.
Conte’s side take on Arsenal in their next Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they look to make it four wins on the spin in the top flight.
