Gary Neville lavished praise on Antonio Valencia after he helped to fire Manchester United to a 4-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Manchester United captain gave the home side the lead in spectacular fashion in the fourth minute at Old Trafford as he thumped home a brilliant strike from Nemanja Matic’s pass.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan then made it 2-0 late on when he latched on to Romelu Lukaku’s pass and fired home – and former Everton striker Lukaku netted the third in the 90th minute.

Substitute Anthony Martial then added a fourth from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Valencia has made the right-back spot his own in recent months at Old Trafford and he has become one of the Red Devils’ most reliable performers.

And former Manchester United right-back Neville was hugely impressed by what he saw from the Ecuador star as he thumped home the opener early on at Old Trafford.

Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Neville said: “Antonio Valencia can see it coming from a mile off, it’s just whether he can execute it.

“What a strike. It’s absolutely brilliant.

“It’s close to the goalkeeper but he [Jordan Pickford] can’t get anywhere near it. He hits it absolutely brilliantly.”

Manchester United will return to Premier League action next Saturday when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s.

Jose Mourinho is aiming to lead the Red Devils to their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Manchester United ended up in sixth place in the table last season but won both the League Cup and Europa League on Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
