Jose Mourinho amazed by 21-year-old Man United attacker
Jose Mourinho lavishes praise on Anthony Martial after the striker's display for Manchester United against Burton Albion
Jose Mourinho lavished praise on Anthony Martial after the striker helped Manchester United book their place in the fourth round of the League Cup with a 4-1 win over Burton Albion on Wednesday night.
The 21-year-old French striker played the full 90 minutes and scored one of the Red Devils’ four goals as Mourinho’s men continued their impressive start to the season in front of their home fans.
Martial was named man of the match on Wednesday night as he scored one and notched up an assist during the Red Devils’ thumping win at Old Trafford.
The France international has had to be patient for a place in the first team at Old Trafford so far this season, with Martial having only started one of Manchester United’s five Premier League games so far.
However, Mourinho was thrilled by the majority of Martial’s performance for the Red Devils in the League Cup on Wednesday night, although he admitted that some things did not come off for him.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “Anthony Martial wanted to do things – some he did amazingly well, others not so well.
“But he was always trying and that commitment and happiness on the pitch is always important.”
Martial will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Southampton.
Mourinho’s men are currently joint top of the Premier League table after a strong start to the new campaign under the Portuguese coach.
